my world is round

on life, as it were

rabbit, rabbit, rabbit

My dad has always said "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit" on the first day of the month, saying it is supposed to bring good fortune. Have always blown it off as a random Dad thing -- you know how they like to make stuff up just to mess with you -- but have also felt the compunction to say it every month on the first. And have passed this annoying habit on to my kids.

Well I be darned if he didn't have a basis for rabbit, rabbit, rabbit. There is even a Wikipedia entry on it. And the variations are great! One version says:

Saying "white rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit" as the first words of the month, before getting out of bed -- and the speaker must first reverse position, so that speaker's head is at the foot of the bed & vice versa.

Go figure.

Oh, and since today is the second, you'll have to wait until August for your good luck.

Mother's Day Gift

Here it is -- part two of my Mother's Day gift. My own blog. Yes, our family is that geeky. I don't know what's worse -- me asking for a blog or them enthusiastically agreeing to it. But I am now a hip mom. Not hip enough for a myspace account, much to my daughters' delight, but cool enough to have a blog.

Dscn5338 Last night I got the first part of my gift. My husband and two sons took me to the Houston Grand Prix down at Reliant Park. It was my first time to watch a car race live -- and while I was prepared to suffer through the testosterone-laden event, I found myself really getting into it. I was pulling for Katherine Legge -- the only female driver -- for no other reason that pure sexism. She wore a metallic lavender helmet. That might be her in the red and white car in the photo. They were going *really* fast. <g> My boys were rooting for A.J Allmendinger, the only American in the pack. And the rest of the stands around us were cheering on Mario Dominguez, who ended up third after an amazing start. Unfortunately Katherine suffered a spin out about half-way through and ended up 15 laps back. I still rooted for her every time she came around the curve. I think it was the helmet.
